Technology Lesson Plan

In my lesson I showed students how to use Smart Ideas 5 to create a character description. The students picked characteristics of the main character and then provided evidence to support those characteristics. I then showed the students how to use this information to write proper sentences. I wrote a level 2 answer in one colour, level 3 in another and level 4 in a final colour. This example was posted in the back of the room so that the students could refer to it on later assignments. This lesson proved to be effective as most of the students were able to complete the task with level 4 answers....

Smart Ideas 5 Screencast

Smart Ideas 5 Screencast

This is my first ever screencast. This is just a brief introduction on how to use the program Smart Ideas 5. This program can be used to create mind maps and other brainstorming charts. This is a good program to use in the classroom because it keeps ideas organized and allows students to make connections. Mind maps are a way for students to organize their thoughts. Studies have shown that children living with autism or dyslexia benefit from using mind maps to organize their thoughts (Mind). In my lesson plan students with IEP accommodations were able to use a computer to create their character profiles. They followed the same method I did with the example and did well on the assignment because they were able to arrange their thoughts. By using a program like Smart Ideas students are able to keep ideas more organized than if they were on paper. On a computer you can move the information around to keep it organized. The placement is temporary, on paper it is permanent. Mind maps also help students make connections that they may not have before. Because everything is visual students can see visually a similarity that may have been written down already. Also, they may recall using an idea before and can locate it on the mind map and make the connection. “Mind Mapping in Education.” Retrieved on November 22, 2012 from I used Smart Ideas 5 to help students create character descriptions.
